Who are they?
The BBFC is an independent company and are self-financed not-for-profit media content regulator. They operate transparent, consistent and trusted co-regulatory and self-regulatory classification and labelling systems in the UK.  BBFC is responsible for the national classification and censorship of films that is exhibited at cinemas and video works such as TV, trailers, public information/campaigning film that is released on the United Kingdom.

What do they implement?
  • As a film company, they are responsible for protecting  the public, especially children from the harmful content of films and other forms of media.
  • They provide an effective service to enforcement agencies
  • Responsible for the censorship of films
  • They also respond to and reflect changing social attitudes towards media content through proactive public consultation and research.
  • Work in partnership with the industry to help develop some innovative service models to provide reliable content and advice to support emerging media delivery systems
Why?
  • During my research, I found out about their annual reports; they are required by law to ensure they record their industry's recent activities and classification decisions over the past year. Without this information, we would not be able to know their processes of how they classify films etc.
  • Without this company, other audiences might not be aware of its classification, meaning that they would not know what type of rating and content it contains or if it is suitable to watch. (it helps identify what type of audience it is normally suitable for.)
