'TWISTED'
PERSONAL- In my perspective, this drawing exhibits the twisting nature of life and death as the skull looks broken and almost agonising to look at as it is deformed with stitches to illustrate pain. It reminds me of Creepypasta as the look of the portrait looks demented and delusional.
SYMBOLISM-
SKULL- the skull exemplifies the deathly feel of the viewer as it is distorted with different angles. Its elongated proportion implies the deformity of the human mind as we begin to feel delusional. This fits well with the codes and conventions of horror as the skull is an obvious symbol for death- the character forgets about the threat until the events start to crawl on them closer.
DOLL'S HEAD- the doll's head connotes vulnerability as it appears blemished; it appears that the head is crying blood to suggest immense suffering as this creates the foreshadowing for the inevitable fate that awaits the person. Judging from the doll's childlike quality, it also represents the innocence of that person as by looking at it, it shows their ill fate. The head could also express the character's deep phobia; Pediophobia (the fear of dolls), implying that the entity appears from their greatest fear.
PORTRAIT- the portrait itself appears still and calm with the deathly blank background and it illustrates the suspense. it remains motionless as if the figure is waiting for someone to gaze at it
EYES- the eyes represent that the drawing in a way, symbolises its ominous stare that it gives to the viewer, hence necessary to use the term "eyes are windows to the soul" meaning that no matter you try to run away from a problem, the eyes are still watching you.
COMPOSITION
the portrait is supposed to portray the death and destruction of the body and mind. It is meant to suggest the consumption of the soul after gazing at the portrait for a period of time. The title 'Twisted' makes the drawing more intense as it implies the immensity of the person's state of mind.
